Shopify vs Wix

Shopify vs Wix

The most glaring distinction between the two platforms is their pricing, with Wix offering an entirely free plan and Shopify offering a free trial lasting 14 days. The free plan Wix offers is quite limited in its functionality, as you cannot avoid the Wix advertising on your account, and you cannot connect a domain or sell anything on it – but it still offers a good introduction to what the site can offer.

On the other hand, its premium features are spread out across 8 plans, with four catering to ecommerce websites and four catering to general websites. The general ‘Website’ plans start at $14 to $39 monthly, and ecommerce website plans start at $23 to $500 monthly.
The Shopify pricing plans are simpler, as there are 5 plans to select from ranging from $9 to $299 monthly, and a Shopify Plus plan that uses custom pricing ranging about $2,000 monthly.

Wix has better value for money, while Shopify is better if you can afford a more expensive plan.

When creating a Wix account, you have the choice of 800 templates and sorts them according to business type or industry, while Shopify only offers you 9 free themes and sorts them through various criteria like layout type and visual effects. However, Shopify offers each template in 2 or 3 variants, which gives you more variety than you may initially think – and there are an additional 70 premium themes varying between $100 and $180.

Shopify offers a better set of ecommerce templates and more variety overall.

Changing templates

Shopify allows you access to the HTML and CSS codes of your template, and makes it easier to change templates according to what works for you. Wix does not allow this, unless you are using the developer version – which is not easily accessible.

Shopify is a better choice in terms of flexibility in customization options.

Both platforms cater to people who do not have coding skill, but want to build an ecommerce website to sell their products. They also offer similar transaction fee rates when using their built-in processors, ranging between 2.4 and 2.9%.
